ABU DHABI’S TRIYAS SEES STRONG PARTICIPATION AND PERFORMANCE AT YAS MARINA CIRCUIT

Yas Marina Circuit, UAE , February 21, 2025: The TriYAS community triathlon, held at Yas Marina Circuit, welcomed 1,300 participants. The event featured a mix of individual and relay race formats, with athletes competing across various categories including Olympic Aqua Bike, Sprint Aqua Bike, Super Sprint Team Relay, Olympic Team Relay, and Sprint Team Relay.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Yas Marina, the triathlon course took athletes around Yas Marina Circuit, offering a unique challenge as they swam through the marina and completed the bike and run sections on the Formula 1 track. Not only is the iconic track home to some of the world’s biggest racing events, but it also acts as a year-round hub for health and fitness initiatives, continuously engaging with the local and international community visiting Abu Dhabi.

The event saw strong performances from both individuals and teams as Jan Janke won the Open Male Olympic Aqua Bike category with a time of 2:07:42, while Catharina Saenger claimed victory in the Open Female category with a time of 1:59:00. In the Sprint Aqua Bike, Raphael Shepard finished first in the Open Male race in 58:33, and Maya Sophia Lazar won the Open Female race in 54:31.

This year’s milestone edition was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of several key partners. ALIGN Health ensured all participants stayed in peak condition with their services at the event. While Bisleri kept everyone hydrated as the official hydration partner of the 15th edition of the event. National Ambulance provided essential on-site medical support, ensuring the safety of all participants throughout an intense day of fun and sport. Castore Apparel, the official apparel partner, offered participants with premium performance gear. Organic Foods & Café (OFC) contributed healthy post-race snacks and refreshments, emphasizing the importance of wellness and nutrition.

TriYAS is the event that brings all Abu Dhabi and UAE locals together, whether on or off the field. The local classic has already seen more than 15,000 athletes take part since the first-ever race. From participants to active members, contributing to the event in the best way they can.

“TriYAS is more than just a race, it’s a true community event that aligns perfectly with our school spirit at Raha International School. Through the support of Arabian Swim Academy, we can encourage as many of our athletes as possible to participate, set their personal best times, and most importantly, enjoy the experience. With their guidance, we continue to foster a love for sport, perseverance, personal achievement in triathletes, and having fun on the day!,” said Debbie Schreiber, the Swim School Manager with Arabian Swim Academy, who bought over 50 students to the event – encouraging a love for swimming and sport in all ages. 

Over 15,000 people have participated in TriYAS since its debut, reflecting its growing influence in the region’s sporting calendar. Arabian Swim Academy Manager Helen Wilson commented, ”We are all for youth sport within Abu Dhabi and the Emirates.  We have always enjoyed TriYAS it is always well organized and has an atmosphere that encourages people to stay and not only compete but enjoy the day. Even with it being half term for our school we still had 65 Raha athletes registered for the event.”

In the team relay categories, 4SLA, consisting of Aliona Hay, Paula Gonzalez, and Ella Knight, took the top spot in the Female Super Sprint Team Relay. Tri Catch Us – Zack Johnstone, Noah Jude Leclerc, and Kai Lucas Maiden – won the Male category, while FALCON 6 – Darko Skulikj, Damiane Kapanadze, and Shamma Alhosani – finished first in the Mixed category.

In the Olympic Team Relay, The Chickadees (Akshita Vibhakar, Fatima Shaikh, and Elona Shemieeva) won the Female category, and Los tres burros (Guillaume Dufond, Felix Bedolla, and Adam Millward) claimed victory in the Male category. AD TRI Family (Maya Goetz, Anjel Duran, and Milos Milanovic) took first place in the Mixed category.

The Sprint Team Relay saw 4LSA (Stephanie Riddoch, Ana Stein, and Megan Moustache) winning the Female category, while Spira 2 (Hammad Hafeez, Hassan Kakooza, and Abir Bin Ismail) won the Mixed category.

TriYAS continues to attract participants from across the UAE and beyond, highlighting the growing interest in multisport events in the region, especially with the pleasant weather that Abu Dhabi offers during the winter season, becoming a hub for fitness enthusiasts and wellness savvies.
