For the second year in a row, reigning world champion Jonas Andersson of Team Vietnam, driving boat #1, clinched the coveted “Best Lap” title in the BRM Qualification. The event took place on Saturday at Khalid Lagoon as part of the UIM F1H2O World Championship, Road to Sharjah, Grand Prix of Sharjah. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council, the 23rd edition of the event is organized by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority and will conclude tomorrow (Sunday) with the final race.
Andersson dedicated the Sharjah round’s BRM Qualifying to his growing record, increasing his tally to 99 points and strengthening his bid for the overall title. He now holds a narrow three-point lead over Canadian Rusty Wyatt, captain of Sharjah Team’s boat #17, who remains in contention with a slim chance to snatch the title.
Andersson achieved the fastest lap on Khalid Lagoon’s 2,057-meter course, clocking an impressive 45.750 seconds. This stellar performance secured him pole position for the main race for “Grand Prix of Sharjah” – Road to Sharjah tomorrow (Sunday). He outpaced Erik Stark, of Victory Team’s boat #4, who finished second by just 0.199 seconds. Third place went to Emirati driver Thani Al Qemzi of Abu Dhabi Team, piloting boat #5 with a time of 46.537 seconds.
In the Sprint Races, the Swedish Jonas Andersson secured first place in Sprint Race 1, earning an additional 10 points. Frenchman Peter Morin claimed second place, adding 9 points to his tally, while Finland’s Sami Selio finished third, earning 8 points. In Sprint Race 2, Erik Stark took the top spot, adding 10 points to his score. Emirati driver Thani Al Qemzi secured second place with 9 points, while Poland’s Bartek Marszalek finished third, earning 8 points.
