Dubai, United Arab Emirates – April 19, 2023 – The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai marks Earth Day 2023 with its continued commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness, a promise that the hotel takes seriously. The hotel has taken several measures to promote sustainable practices and reduce its carbon footprint, from water conservation to waste reduction, and energy-efficient lighting. The resort is proud to announce that it has earned the prestigious Green Key certification, a leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry.

The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai has integrated environmentally sustainable practices throughout its operations and procurement processes, with a comprehensive set of initiatives and practices designed to reduce energy use, water consumption and waste, while tracking consumption and monitoring progress against goals. The hotel has reduced water consumption by 4% and energy consumption by 0.5% in 2022 compared to 2021, despite a 9% increase in occupancy and 25% increase in food covers, showcasing its commitment to sustainability while delivering a seamless experience for guests.

In line with the brand’s overall strategy for environmental responsibility, the hotel plans to increase local and organic dining options, source environmentally preferred products, and engage and inspire employees and guests in conservation efforts. The hotel has already implemented several eco-friendly initiatives, including the segregation of recyclables, the installation of motion sensors for light control in car park areas, and the replacement of all lights with energy-saving choices.

Technology plays a crucial role in the hotel’s sustainability efforts, and The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai is proud to be one of the first hotels in the region to provide guests with sustainably grown, local produce from its innovative, in-house vertical farm. The hotel has partnered with Green Container Advanced Farming (GCAF) to launch its hyper-local on-site hydroponic farm, one of the first-ever vertical farms in the city, eliminating the need for soil and reducing water usage by almost 90%. The farm grows crops year-round, with daily harvests of up to ten kilograms of produce, including a variety of herbs, microgreens, lettuce, and other ingredients. The fresh produce enhances the quality of dishes served at the hotel’s numerous award-winning restaurants, such as Blue Jade, Splendido, La Baie, and more.
